In January 2014 i accepted a challenge to go without alcohol for the whole of January…. it was something i had done before but very loosely. The difference with this challenge was it was to raise money for cancer, a disease that i had been brought closer to through friends of mine being diagnosed. For myself 2014 has been a great year, we introduced our first baby into the world. Jack was born in April of this year and since then it’s been the best experience of my life so far. Having your first born really puts things into perspective, it’s no longer just about yourself anymore. Yesterday i took the plunge and took the VCP550-DCV exam, this was the recertification exam to my already acquired VCP5-DCV with the newly added expiry date this was going to expire come March 2015. But what prompted me to take the exam this week was the offer of being able to take the exam online and not having to go into a testing centre. Yes you heard correct a VMware open book exam…. Sessions opened this month for the NetApp Insight – Las Vegas – 2014 conference that i am extremely lucky to be attending, not only is this the second visit to the US it is also another place on the list of American places i want to visit and i get to do it because of my job which is super cool. As well as Vegas i will also be attending the Insight event which is to be held in Berlin, Germany this year after following two years in Dublin, Ireland. Over the last month i have been pretty busy attending the NetApp insight conferences in both Las Vegas and in Berlin as well as doing my normal day job. First up was Las Vegas for my first visit and my first US version of the event. You can see some of the tourist things i did whilst out there. Following on from my previous post regarding my trip over to the US for NetApp Insight in Vegas i have also put together my schedule for Berlin. Much closer to home this one, and familiar territory for me as i have done quite a lot of work over in Berlin, so the flight to Tegal will only be a short 1 hour and 45 mins, where as Vegas will be 10 hours 30 mins. So last week was my first ever visit to the United States, and it was NetApp that shipped me over for our NetApp Advocate’s quarterly Tech Field day over at NetApp HQ Sunnyvale.
