I wanted to follow on from my introduction and how to post regarding Chocolatey as a windows package manager and introduce a package that was authored by the community, I want to give a personal shout out to the authors of this package. Ericjaystevens – https://chocolatey.org/profiles/ericjaystevens Sbaerlocher – https://chocolatey.org/profiles/sbaerlocher Simon can also be found on twitter at https://twitter.com/sbaerlocher Veeam Agent for Windows The Veeam agent for Windows package provides the free version of the product which can be upgraded with the appropriate license key. One thing I have been meaning to write for a while now is around what I use to build out my templates from a software point of view, this could be the windows workstation or my windows server templates. From a Mac-OS perspective I use HomeBrew but I wanted to focus this on the windows side of things because there is not a great deal of options when it comes to Windows Packet Management. My go to has been Chocolatey. For those in the Linux world you can skip this one from the opening introduction, you guys have had yum for a while… The firstRead More →

This is a continued series based on an event I attended back in June this year, the event was held in London and it was http://www.techforbritain.co.uk/ It caught our eye to attend based on some of the speakers and topics that were being discussed. If it isn’t easy, I won’t use it – Nick King – AutoTrader This session I was really interested in, I knew Nick coming from AutoTrader was probably going to be talking about how making a simple easy to use website would be the key to success but I wanted to hear the terminology used here because one of the thingsRead More →

It’s taken me a while to get back round to my notes from a different event that I attended back in June this year, the event was held in London and it was http://www.techforbritain.co.uk/ It caught our eye to attend based on some of the speakers and topics that were being discussed. The reason for this very simple walkthrough was because of a prompted question in the Veeam forums this morning but I thought it may come in use for anyone else trying to make use of the Veeam file copy function, this capability within the product (also available in the free version) allows for you to schedule a file or folder copy to another location, it can also be ran ad-hoc. The steps to achieve this involve adding your source and destination servers or SMB shares. Firstly open your Veeam Backup & Replication console and head over to the “Backup Infrastructure” from here you will seeRead More →

It’s the end of another busy conference week, VMworld US is probably on par with our own conference VeeamON in terms of how busy we are. It was my first ever VMworld last year and this one well and truly topped it. Announcements The opening keynote was really exciting to hear, the aquisition of CloudHealth was great. I have been following these guys for a while and the tech they bring or will bring to the VMware portfolio is really exciting. With CloudHealth, you gain visibility into cost, usage and performance across your physical infrastructure and virtual machines. The second exciting announcement was around AmazonRead More →

That’s a wrap for day 2 of VMworld, there were two big bits worth mentioning from a Veeam perspective, firstly it is the VMware on AWS marketplace and the addition of Veeam Backup & Replication as an option for automated deployment. This screen has been taken from beta testing. To summarise what this means is, for the Veeam customers that have taken the steps to leverage VMware on AWS by giving those customers the same simple, easy to use and seamlessly easy to get thing protected from a backup and replication point of view, using the same toolset that we know from our on-premises vSphereRead More →

Our session this year is focusing on the automation and orchestration around Veeam and VMware. But what does that mean? The point of our session to highlight the flexibility of the Veeam Hyper-Availability Platform, some people just want the simple, easy to use wizard driven approach to install their Veeam components within their environments but some will want that little bit more and this is where APIs come in and allow us to drive a more streamlined and automated approach to delivering Veeam components. We also highlighted this by running through everything live, I will get to the nuts and bolts of that shortly. WithRead More →

In just over 2 weeks I will be making the trip over to Las Vegas for my 3rd VMworld event. That is just the two events from last year both US and Europe, it is still a little crazy to think I have been in this game for a few years now and this is only my third time attending. My first VMworld post from last year. I wanted to put a short post together just highlighting some of the things that Veeam and I will be doing at this year’s event. For the official Veeam at VMworld page you can get that here. VeeamRead More →
